Extrait de Scientia Vol. XIV, 7.eme annee (1913), N. XXXI-5. Translation by M. W. Horn of "Das Interesse an der Psychoanalyse Erste Teil: Das psychologische Interesse," Scientia Vol. 14 Nr. 31, pp. 240-250. Bologna: Nicola Zanichelli, [1913]. 1st Edition in French, 1st separate printing. Pp. [157]-167+[1] + 8 pages of front ads and 8 pages of rear ads with the ad leaves printed on green paper and continuously paginated 1-16. Thin octavo. Original printed gray wrappers with black front & rear lettering. Sheets browned, spine chipped, upper front corner chipped, but a very nice copy for such an ephemeral piece. Rare. All of Freud's analytic offprints are scarce. I can't imagine that there are many surviving copies of this. Though unsigned, this was Hermann Nunberg's copy and is quite likely the copy cited in Grinstein's bibliography. Both the German and French versions of the second part of the paper appeared in no. 32 of Scientia. Grinstein, Sigmund Freud's Writings #125, with incorrect pagination (French translation apparently not in Grinstein's Index to Psychoanalytic Writings). Unsurprisingly, not in OCLC. 2.0 ounces = 58 grams. 9.8 x 6.8 x 0.1 inches = 24.5 x 17 x 0.2cm. So far as we can determine, this is the first translation of a psychoanalytic text of Freud's into French. It is not, however, the first appearance of Freud in French, as it is preceded by the several psychopathological papers he published in French in the mid-1890s. Binding: PB.
