Translation by Brendan A[rnold] Maher (born 1924) & Erik Kvan of Om oplevelsen af andres adfaerd (Copenhagen 1953). Murray's foreword is a substantial text of eight pages. Appointed in 1939 as assistant professor at the University of Copenhagen's psychological laboratory, From became full professor in 1954. In his doctoral thesis, translated here, "he presented the results of his experiments with subjects who were asked to describe certain films containing brief everyday experiences. The results of From's experiments indicated that the subjects always say a purpose in the actions of the persons in the films, even when they did not see the conclusion of the action. From maintained that this was caused by a preparatory perceptual process that made people perceive the actions of others as having meaning or purpose" [Sexton & Misiak Psychology Around the World, pp. 109-110].
