Provides a review of Africa in 1850, then covers the outset of the expedition in 1858, the 'discovery' of Nyasaland (Malawi) in 1859-1860, the climax and end of the expedition 1861, 1862, 1863, finishing with a review of the results of the expedition. Does not cover the subsequent important 20 years of his working life spent in Zanzibar. Interesting sketches and photographs by Kirk reproduced here. Also some letters between Kirk & Livingstone.
