[... the Pancaratra ... was to be come the more popular and most widely accepted school since it had a broader base among the masses, having incorporated in itself much of the popular religious practices... Bhargavatantra is one of such treatises composed mainly on the basis of the previous more extensive reference works which deal with the ritual of Pancaratra form of worship in all its aspects. This work has an extent of some 1600 verses which are divided into 25 chapters. It starts with a description of the various forms of temples and their internal lay-out, gives details of the worshipable images and describes extensively the ritual of their consecration. It then proceeds to describe the ritual details of various festivals taking place in a temple and deals summarily with the ritual of temple-worship as well as other allied subjects. The work, thus, is of special importance to the arcakas or the temple- worshippers. It is found to be referred to in the five important Pancatatra works which shows that it was estimated to be a work of considerable merit..." - from Introduction]
