Description: New Delhi, Indian Institute Islamic... (1970). orig. cloth, dustwrapper. 24x16cm, (187), (1) pp, In a rubbed & torn dustwrapper.. Minor rubbing, light page-edge soil, Good. ¶ Contains a one-page English introduction. Remainder of text entirely in Arabic. "Tarikh a-Ridda has been culled out of an Arabic manuscript, al- Iktifa, now in the National Library, Cairo. Written about 700 years ago by Sulaiman al-Kala'i al-Balansi...from Valencia...al-Iktifa deals with the life of the Prophet & the wars the Prophet's successors waged against the Arab tribes who challenged the Islamic authority in Medina...also records the battles of conquest, fought during the Caliphates of 'Umar and 'Uthman...a substantial portion of al-Iktifa, relating to what are generally known as the 'ridda' wars, has been derived from sources that are either extinct or untraced so far...So far as I know, the only work which contains extracts from al-Iktifa is 'Tarikh al-Khamis' by Husain al- Diyarbarki (d. 9 90 A.H./ A.D. 1532), Published in 1884... it does not record the battles fought by Abu Bakr's generals in other parts of the peninsula, nor does it include a host of other important details given in al-Iktifa. These neglected details...light up many significant aspects of the reign of Abu Bakr who played a vital role in the early history of Islam" - [from the Introduction by Khurshid Ahmad Fariq].
