ALISON, BART, SIR ARCHIBALD History of Europe from the commencement of the French Revolution in MDCCXXXIX to the Restoration of the Bourbons in MDCCCXV.
Ninth edition, Edinburgh and London, Blackwood, 1866. Thirteen volumes small octavo : a remarkably fine and well preserved set, uncut and largely unopened, in the bright decoratively blind-stamped original maroon cloth. ¶ ** Close to immaculate. The set has slumbered for the whole of its life in a Melbourne convent library. There is a small string-burn on one hinge, and also a light degree of backstrip fading. Each volume carries a small chaste book-plate on the front paste-down, and a small diamond-shaped paper numbering label (or its remains) on each backstrip.
