Neat pen annotations to title page of vol. 1. enlarging the sub-title, pp.47-90 creased to fore-edge with occasional loss, further marginal creasing, with the signature of ‘Charlotte Anley Dec. 1839’, with the ink stamp of H.G. Doggett, ex.-libris William Goût of Beckenham Kent, some light mainly marginal browning, original blind embossed cloth with gilt device to upper boards, corners frayed and sl. bumped, gilt lettered sl. faded spines chipped with loss, cloth lacking to lower joint of vol. 2. ¶ The three brothers escaped from Shiraz when their father the Governor of Fars was unsuccessful in attempting to supplant his brother Muhammad Shah and to seize the throne after the death of Fath Ali-Shah. From Shiraz they travelled to England and stayed for the summer of 1836, returning via Belgium, Prussia, Austria, Hungary, Walachia, Turkey, to finally settle in Baghdad. Also with accounts of Lebanon, Alexandria, Africa, Egypt. Charlotte Anley (1796–1893) English didactic novelist and a writer on social and religious affairs. She was also a composer and a lyricist. As a Quaker, she spent the years 1836–1838 in Australia, researching for a report on women's prisons commissioned by Elizabeth Fry.
