Navari ‘This journal of travels was made in 1830 when Urquhart was sent on a mission to survey the Greek frontier. He travelled through Epirus and Thessaly, and as far North as Mount Athos. [The above] is a most interesting work, not as a description of travels providing extensive details of life and manners in Turkey and Greece but as an attempt to analyse the relationshp between these customs and the manner of thought in the Orient.’ Blackmer 1707 ‘... in this remarkable work he describes his feelings of disenchantment with the Greek and growing admiration for the Turks ... giv[ing] a detailed study of the two peoples...’
