A facsimile of the 'Author's Favourite Edition' originally published by Chapman & Hall. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ On the verso of the half title it states : This is an exact facsimilie in every detail of text and illustration, excepting on the title pages, of the last edition of his works published under the eye of Charles Dickens, and described by him as 'this is the best edition of my books.' The Style of Binding being also copied from the original. The last of his picaresque novels, and which Dickens thought 'was his best work thus far', but at the time of publication, it was one of his least popular novels.
