Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ A series of sermons by the British Missionary Thomas Valpy French [ 1825 - 1891 ] who travelled extensively in India and Persia and who became the first Bishop of Lahore in 1877. He also founded , in 1853, St John's College Agra, learning Hindustani, Punjabi, Urdu, Persian, Pashto and Arabic to do so. However his desire to to build an indigenous, multi-racial Indian church was doomed to failure. With Henry Martyn, French is considered one of the most important Christian missionaries to the Middle East.
