Old Library lable of the Freres Perisse, Lyon on the pastedown. Originally published in 1712 without Fénélon's knowledge, ( and with a second part appearing postumously in 1718 ), the work is 'an almost forgotten work of his youth, it was received with much approval, and was soon translated into English and German.
