Extremely popular in its day the work was translated into many languages & remained un print for almost 3 centuries. Grotius' legal mind showing in his use of juridical apologetics in the defence of Christian belief. Hugo Grotius [ 1583 - 1645 ] Dutch jurist who was one of the founders of International law as well as being a philosopher, theologian & poet. This edition has notes by Jean Le Clerc, [ 1657 - 1736 ] Swiss theologian & Biblical scholar & radical noted for his keen interest in Biblical exegesis.
