LATIN text. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ Later edition of Grotius' 1627 work, the first Protestant book of Christian apologetics, written originally in Dutch whilst Grotius was in prison. Extremely popular in its day the work was translated into many languages & remained un print for almost 3 centuries. Grotius' legal mind showing in his use of juridical apologetics in the defence of Christian belief. Hugo Grotius [ 1583 - 1645 ] Dutch jurist who was one of the founders of International law as well as being a philosopher, theologian & poet. This edition has notes by Jean Le Clerc, [ 1657 - 1736 ] Swiss theologian & Biblical scholar & radical noted for his keen interest in Biblical exegesis.
