Hardback , no dustjacket. ISBN: 0802055842 ¶ Biography of Heriot [ 1759 - 1839 ] a Scottish born painter & artist. He enroled in the British Army where he was , as an Officer Cadet taught landscape painting. In 1792 was posted to Canada where he painted the Canadian Landscape as part of his post with the Royal Ordnance. In 1799 he was promoted to the post of Postmaster General for the British North American Colonies. Whilst his time as POstmaster was beset with problems, it was not until the 20th century that his pictures were recognised for their aritsic merit & more importantly their accurate portrayal of the Canadian Landscape & frontier life in the late 18th & early 19th centuries.
