The author, De Becker, an English lawyer came to Japan in 1887. He assumed Japanese nationality after a few years and in 1894 he set up a legal practice in Yokohama. After the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 he moved his practice to Kobe where he lived until his death. This controversial work describes the Yoshiwara Yukwaku and its organization, manners and ceremonies as well as its legal constraints and medical aspects. Not in Cordier.
