Uncut copy in original printed wrappers. First edition of the scientific results of the first Swedish circumnavigation undertaken during the years 1851-53. Several distinguished scientists participated on this world cruise under the command of C.A. Virgin. The expedition visited South America, Panama, Galapagos Islands, California, Hawaii, Tahiti, Australia, HongKong, Canton, the Philippines, Mauritius and the Cape. This scientific report contains three parts; Botany, Zoology and Physics devoted to hydrography, meteorology and geomagnetism. Includes a.o. an interesting account of the Galapagos Islands' vegetation by the expedition's botanist N.J. Andersson (including 16 fine lithographs), important parts about insects by Bohemian, Wallengren, Holmgren etc. and interesting meteorological as well as hydrographical observations by the astronomer Skogman. The first official account of the expedtion was published in 1851-54 by C.J.A. Skogman as "Fregatten Eugenies resa omkring jorden" .
