Pp. xvi, 916. Rebound in blue cloth, red title label on spine. Partly foxed. Last 15 lvs with marginal waterstain. First edition, which seems scarce. "Un excellent petit dictionnaire annamite-francais sans caractères, dont l'autéur, Mgr. Caspar, évêque et vicaire apostolique de la mission de Hué, était alors simple missionaire à Saigon".(Cordier). Louis Caspar, French priest and missionary, arrived in Cochinchina in 1865 and stayed until 1907. He was appointed Bishop of Canathe in 1880. He published a large number of works about language and spirituality. A second enlarged (and totally revised) edition was published in Saigon 1898 by J.F.M. Génibrel. Cordier BI 228.
