Title: Japan in Advance Volumes I and II in Slipcase (+ ephemera)
Description: Tokyo, Kenkokukinenjigiyo-kyokai, 1936. 1st. Hardcover. First printing this two-volume set produced to give an in-depth introduction to embassy staff, business people, etc. who came to live in Japan, pre-WWII. Volume I: 291 pp. 69 photo plates, large folding map of Japan in rear of book, large thick octavo format in coarse brown cotton cloth, dust jacket. Volume II: 305 pp. 60 photo plates, same format as Volume I. Both housed in the original publisher's slipcase/box of brown stiff cardboard with titles in black, nicely constructed with brass brads. Both texts are in Fine condition with the exception of some spotting to the edges of the text block. The fragile dust jackets are bright and fresh, with a few minor edge-tears and some edge-wear. These books do not appear to have been read. Condition is Nearly Fine/Nearly Fine, same for the box. Laid in: background information package for Canadian embassy staff, circa 1978, about 10 pp. Also, promotional material for several books related to Japanes Art and Classical Dance, circa 1935, with order form. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included.
