Very good copy with the original wrappers preserved. ¶ First Edtion, one of 1000 numbered copies, with the original Cezanne etching, 'Tête de Femme' signed in the plate. The first and the most famous of the monographs which Vollard published to record information and anecdotes concerning the contemporary artists who were his friends. 'In my book on Cézanne' Vollard explained, 'I tried to write simply, colloquially, so to speak, echewing the slightest hint of art criticism' (Recollections). A most willing and dilligent collector of anecdotes, Vollard by this method has afforded unusual insight into Cézanne's personality.
