'Verne is the Lord Glenarvan of Captain Grant's Children. The work, Verne's only tender novel, was written when Verne's son was seven years old. If the book makes children cry, it also leads the childhood imagination toward a modern and scientific appreciation of the world. It has been said that this novel decided many a seafaring career. One of these was surely that of Verne's own son' (Gallagher et al. p.184). This set may be an unrecorded variant, for neither Myers nor Gallagher note copies without an explicit date.
