Stirred by the Boulangists, Maurice Barrès (1862-1923) entered politics as Deputy for Nancy in 1889. The movement's mystico-nationalism was the inspiration for a trilogy which includes the present work along with Les Déracinés (1897) and L'Appel au Soldat (1900). Talvart & Place 24A.
