Great High Priest, 3d. Little Wheel George, 4th. Big Bug Merchant. [Signed in print at bottom:]-the public's humble servant, Young Nick".
[Southington, Ct.?], n.d. [1834?]. Folio. 15" x 10 3/4". Some chips at edges (text unaffected), old folds, some stains and pencil notations and scribbles on blank verso. ¶ His Highness charges the criminal with "manifold transgressions and high-handed outrages- both of a political and a religious nature. You have stolen the goods of the Church, imposed upon the illustrious Sages of the Revolution, in making unjust exactions from them for papers arranged, detailing their claim upon the gratitude of their country, which they had protected through a prolonged and bloody conflict-" He accuses Romeo, "that detestable, pitiable, and sordid wretch," of robbing "from the founders of your liberties the scanty pittance allotted to them for the support of their advanced and tottering age-", and sentences him to being "steeped down in phosphorus for 86 years. The Big Bug Merchant, so terrified that he "besmeared his inexpressibles," is accused of "treating his father, a man in advanced age and destitute of the comforts of life, with disrespect, and alledged that this pup was amply able to assist him-", and condemned to "clean my boots for 100 years, ride one of my young devils to water, daily-" Little Whell George is charged with "innumerable little mean, unmanly acts-an arrogant disposition --- one who sported with the feelings of his betters-", and is sentenced "to row a Last Factory up the Farmington Canal, with an apple tree, and polish several kedge-anchors which belonged to His Highness' Navy." The Great High Priest is charged with "promising to pay sundry sums of money for a mistress he kept in his house, disregarding the laws against seduction and fornication -- with having been the cause of depriving several persons of their reason and consequently life-and-that he was now in the practice of holding meetings which were calculated to fill our land with suicides, seductions, murders, thefts, and robberies-[and] with claiming to be an Ambassador of the Lord-" The Great High Priest is sentenced "to be taken from this place to Mount Vesuvius, there to be drenched in the lava of its volcano until you are cleansed from scurf, then to be chained to a car of Burning Brimstone, and drove by wild cats to Kamschatka, and there to be banished for your natural life -- and may the fanatics you have made have mercy on you."
