Mitchel (subsequently a Major in the army air service, he was killed in a training crash the following year), and president of Columbia University, Nicholas Murray Butler, along with other notables. They sit under a display of flags and the sign "To Make the World Safe for Democracy." An imposing photograph, by the noted firm of Underwood & Underwood, their logo appearing in the lower left corner.
