[Published New York: Modern Age Books, 1938]. 4to. 192 pp., with numerous corrections in the author's hand; together with a carbon typescript of the final draft, with mss. corrections (170 pp.); and a one-page ANs by Hicks laid in, regarding the manuscripts. Altogether, 360 pp., on various paper stocks. A few leaves brittle at edges, the whole laid in a folding linen box with chemise. ¶ The note, dated January 9, 1941, reads as follows: "These are two manuscripts of 'I Like America', written principally in the fall of 1937 and published by Modern Age Books in the Spring of 1938. Some 50,000 copies have been sold in the paperbound edition. The manuscript on yellow paper is the first draft. The other is a carbon copy of the version sent to the publisher. I am very happy to contribute these manuscripts to the sale for the benefit of the Southern Tenant Farmers Union. Granville Hicks."
