Shipton and Mooney 30216; Pearl 12. ¶ Edmund Randolph, former Secretary of State, had been forced to resign his position due to a charge (unproven) that he had accepted a bribe from the French to oppose the Treaty with Britain. In his defense he wrote the "Vindication" offering his papers up for public examination.
