Illustrated with 75 "Curious and Elegant" engravings of freaks, prodigies, oddities, wonders, etc. Contemporary calf, volume II rebacked, spines end of other volumes repaired, red leather spine labels. Joints starting, small chip from heel of volume IV, else very good. British Library Catalogue P.P. 5153 (both issues). ΒΆ Marvels, prodigies, oddities, whimsical anecdotes, bizarre tales, all wonderfully illustrated in this rare delight, which surely must be one of the earliest magazines of its kind. There is an engraving of a nasty looking "Walking Bookseller" who resembles very much Tom Paine The BM catalogue noting the first issue with a title simply "The Wonderful Magazine, and Marvellous Chronicle: or, New Weekly Entertainer," also records another set with title beginning as above "The New Wonderful, Magazine ... ", and notes that it is a duplicate of the former with variant title page and alter preliminaries
