ΒΆ Winthrop Chanler was a scion of privilege, a member of the Harvard class of 1885, a crony of Theodore Roosevelt, Owen Wister, Henry Cabot Lodge; overage, distinguished personal aide to Pershing in WWI France; and a sportsman of keen enthusiasm. His interest in big game shooting took him on trips to Colorado, and Asia Minor, to which two chapters of this book are devoted, fox hunting in Ireland, England at Melton Mowbray and the Genesee. "Of Asian interest is the cahpter on shooting in Asia Minor in which he hunted snipe, woodcock, and wild boar along Turkey's Jihun River. There is also brief mention of hunting mouflon (wild sheep).
