Title: Gualteri Mapes de Nugis Curialium Distinctiones Quinque
Description: Printed for the Camden Society, 1850. Hardcover. Camden Society Old Series volume 50. xvi + 248pp, bound in red buckram, ref lib bookplate on endpaper. Written in the 12th Century, this work is the most important which has been attributed to Gualteri Mapes, or Walter Mapes. A native of Hereford, he was a personal enemy of the illegitimate son of the king, Geoffrey. This work is a series of snatches on a variety of different topics which appear to have been composed on an ad hoc basis. Topics covered include the capture of Jerusalem by Saladin, pope Lucius succeeding Alexander III. Text is in Latin. With an English introduction by Thomas Wright and glossary of key terms; Square Octavo. Very Good .
