Title: The White Gate: adventures in the imagination of a child.
Description: NY, Norton, (1954). VG. The white gate around which Chase centers its chapters is the symbol to a child of all which life holds of excitement and. wonder. Within its gate are its certainties: an old house in Maine, a country family, a great, warm kitchen with red geraniums in its windows; books; a flock of pigeons in the barn loft. Outside the gate is a world of wonder and surprise, strangers on the country road, boats in the harbor; upland pastures; neighbors and odd relatives; Maine weather, and its gifts. The White Gate is surprising in its recreation of times too little remembered. Chase in her Preface to the Reader says that her purpose in writing her book was "to recapture those vivid impressions from the village of Blue Hill on the Maine seacoast. Publisher's blue decorated binding, with blue spine, slightly faded at edges, decorated endpapers. Detached DJ flaps price clipped.
