Description: NY, Macmillan, 1920. New illus ed. G. New illustrated edition with eight colored plates and many illustrations by Carton Moorepark, illus endpaper showing dogs. From Masefield's introduction: "My own interest in fox hunting began at an early age. I was born in good hunting country, partly woodland, partly pasture. My home, during my first seven years, was within half a mile of the kennels. I saw hounds on most days of my life. Hounds and hunting filled my imagination." Near end of book: "We've had a run that was great and strange; And to kill in the end, at dusk, on grass. We'll turn to the Cock and take a glass. Fo r the hounds, poor souls, are past their forces. And a gallon of ale for our poor horses, and some bits of bread for the hounds, poor things, After all they've done." A surprisingly fat book that feels good in the hands. Green binding with red-orange lettering and outline, fox on spine. Edge wear, slight foxing on few pages, small book serller's label on bottom front endpaper (Chas. E. Lauriat Co. Boston).
