LAMBERTYE, LE COMTE A. DE Essai sur la maniere d'utiliser les troupes en temps de paix, en rendant leurs occupations profitables a l'etat et a elles-memes
Paris: Le Normant fils, Imprimeur du Roi, 1824. FIRST AND ONLY EDITION of this extremely rare treatise on how soldiers should be used during peacetime. 95 pp plus 9 folding lithographed plates, ALL OF WHICH HAVE BEEN CAREFULLY AND BEAUTIFULLY COLORED BY HAND IN WATERCOLOR (as issued). Lambertye recommends that troops be used for clearing and cultivating the earth, rather than for building canals and roads. The plates depict how and where bases should be set up, how troops should be quartered, etc. Printed on extremely fine wove paper, with the plates on extremely fine laid paper. 8vo. BOUND IN THE ORIGINAL SPECKLED BOARDS WITH MOROCCO SPINE LABEL, AS ISSUED. ENTIRELY UNCUT. Tiny traces of wear to binding, else FINE AND BRIGHT, with no defects. Clors very fresh. This book isextremely rare: the only other copy I have located is that in the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. Perhaps unique in such fine, pristine condition.

Offered for US$ 1250.00 by: Cole & Contreras Books / Sylvan Cole Gallery - Book number: 3230
