Complete with 64 CHARMING HAND-COLORED FULL-PAGE ENGRAVED PLATES by the author, depicting typical scenes and illustrating costumes, dwellings, customs, and daily life of people all over the world, from Lappland to Patagonia to Scotland to Madagascar to Indochina, with a strong emphasis on exotic and little-known places. Indignenous inhabitants of the Americas are wellrepresented. The text, intelligent and eminently readable, is culled from important contemporary travel accounts. Plates on fine wove paper, text on fine laid paper. This work was very popular and was later reprinted, with inferior plates (and not hand-colored). 8vo.
