Published anonymously, this history is the work of Christian Isobel Johnstone (1781-1857), a Scot, and a prolific and popular writer - of fiction, history, juveniles, and a cook book - who seems to have been largely ignored by the compilers of reference books. She is not in Allibones, the Oxford Companion to English Literature, or Haycraft & Kunitz
