Edited by Herbert Hoover and translated by his wife Lou Henry Hoover, with the assistance of three Latin scholars, over a five year period. Herbert Hoover contributed the introduction and footnotes, having visted actual mine sites in the Alps and Europe, along with carring out Agricola's formulas in laboratories to check the translations. Facsimile engravings of the original woodcuts from the 1556 edition are included. Issued in a limited edition for Herbert Hoover who gave over half the copies free to mining engineers and students. The work has quickly become and remains a valued collector's item. In 1912, the book cost $20,000 to produce the 3000 copies. A fine and generally unopened copy. Fine.
