His life threatened, he fled France and went to Leiden, where he preached under the auspices of the Reformed Church. "Meanwhile the Jesuitical order condemned him to suffer death, first by hanging, then by burning. This provoked the so celebrated work of his, Les Jesuites mis sur l'echafaut, in which he thoroughly exposed the workings of that nefarious clerical order." (Biblical Cyclopedia). The French edition was publicly burned in France on 28 November 1648, and was translated in Dutch, German, English and Latin. Jarrique dedicated this work to the States General of Holland and the United Provinces. Pierre Jarrigue retracted his calvinist views in 1650, returned to the Catholic church and settled in Antwerp. He died in his birth place Tulle. Placed on the Index by decree of 19 July 1688.
