Title: First Years at Port Phillip 1834 - 1842: Preceded by a Summary of Historical Events from 1768.
Description: Melbourne Robertson & Mullens, 1959. 2nd ed. Hardback octavo, dustjacket, fair condition reading copy (in fair dustjacket), black & white photos, frontispiece, jacket little faded (minor edgewear, water stain fore-edge & small stains front cover, slightly toned), light foxing & few marks edges, some edgewear covers, toned strips endpapers from flaps. 159 pp. This chronology is from the first permanent settlement of 'Port Phillip' or 'Australia Felix', at Portland Bay, by Edward Henty, until the beginning of the proceedings of the first Town Council of Melbourne. To provide the necessary historical perspective, the Chronology has been preceded by a Summary of Historical Events. Many matters are noted here for the first time. The full diary kept by Sir Richard Bourke during his visit to Port Phillip in March, 1837, has been published by the compiler when he was given permission by the Trustees of the Public Library of Victoria. A fascinating book for anyone interested in learning about this important part of Australian history. (Second edition stated.).
