Title: First to Damascus: The Great Ride and Lawrence of Arabia.
Description: Sydney, Roseville Kangaroo Press, 2002. Reprint ed. Paperback octavo (with flaps), very good condition, black & white photos, front cover little creased, light foxing inside covers, minor foxing edges, minor edgewear corners. 230 pp. This book is about the Great Ride and the taking of Damascus by 12,000 Australian Light Horsemen in 1918. The author tells how Damascus was defended by the same Turkish general who had blocked the Australians at Gallipoli in 1915. The courage, endurance and friendships that enabled the men to cross the desert, and the bond between horse and soldier is written about with care and understanding. The author's father, Robbie Robertson, was a trooper with the 10th Light Horse, and proved to be her inspiration to write about the role of Australians in the Middle East in the First World War.
