G.; There are four complete issues of this weekly journal for the year of 1898 - July 9, 16, 23 & 30. The July 9th issue has some waterstain on the spine edge & bottom edge (does not affect the print) . There is also a tear at the side. There are engravings of the self-feed band ripping saw, arrangement of Pintsch Gas Plant at New Haven, Conn, Pintsch gas applied to railroad cars-showing storage cylinder, regulator and burners. Also an article on Hames Morris, the "India Rubber Man. " The issue of July 16th contains engravings on Geared Locomotives on the Mount Tamalpais scenic railway. It contains articles on the Engineers, analysis of American and Spanish Warships, a simple maagazine hand camera, Roman Wine Casks discovered at Silchester, a full page photograph of the United States Armored Cruiser "Brooklyn", etc. Etc. This issue is in very good condition with slight crease near spine and a few tears at the back of this issue at the side. The July 23rd issue has engravings of the United States protected cruiser "Newark" as reconstructed. Article on the miraculous wineglasses and the magician. Photograph on new method of concentrating gold by the dry process & article on recovery of gold from low grade ores, etc. Etc. The front & back pages are loose and part of the bottom corner is missing from the rear page. The July 30th issue is in very good condition and photos on the cover are of the wreck of the "Vizcaya" showing opening at the starboard bow, caused by explosion of her own torpedo and of the Starboard-quarter view of "Oquendo, " showing destruction by fire. There is an article on San Juan and its defenses with photos of San Juan, Puerto Rico. There is also an article on Pueblo arts and industries. There are Ads on The Winton Motor Carriage, (first ad of its kind) "DISPENSE WITH A HORSE", Tribune Bicycles, Typewriter, Smith & Wesson heavy caliber revolver, etc. There is an index of inventions for July 19, 1898 including Patent #607, 770 for Beer Pasteurizing Apparatus by W. J. Ruff, Bicycles by Brinton, Hood & Parks, Phonograph T. A. Edison - 607, 588, etc. There are several hundred patents listed by inventors.; Photographs & Illustrations Throughout; 64pp pages.
