Green cloth titled with a vignette in gilt on the front cover. All edges are gilt. The covers are detached and the spine is lacking. The covers are also dampstained, bumped & rubbed with wear to the edges. 232 pages, illustrated with a portrait frontispiece by S. David, an extra engraved title page by G. Fath, 6 full-page plates by G. Fath and 8 plates by Gustave Doré. There is a 2 inch tear along the top inner edge of title page and a few signatures (groups of pages) are slightly pulled. Complete. The pages are bright and clean and the book is well worth restoring. First edition in English, published in the same year as the first French edition. [Leblanc page 124]. An American edition published in the same year had only 6 plates by Elias Whitney. Fair .
