A play set during the Civil War in Siberia by the Soviet Ornamentalist author Vsevolod Vyacheslavovich Ivanov. Ivanov once worked as a circus fakir among other occupations until his published work drew the attention of Gorki. He was wounded several times in the Civil War in Siberia on the side of the Whites, later changing allegiances and fighting for the Reds after having been captured. Influenced by his experiences, his stories contain rich dialect and a colorful lyrical quality.
