Raymond Queneau [1903–1976) was a French novelist, poet, scientist and mathematician, notable for his wit and cynical humor. He was active in the Surrealist movement until 1929. He was co-founder of Ouvroir de littérature potentielle (Oulipo) and from 1956 directed Gallimard's massive publication Encyclopedie de la Pleiade.
