Title: Original Print by Fridolf Johnson Promoting Fritz Lang's Classic Film Noir "Scarlet Street
Description: [1945]. [1945]. [1945]. [1945]. Very good. - sc - A 12 inch high by 9 inch wide print on 14-1/2 inch high by 11-1/4 inch wide glossy stock. The image, reproduced from a line drawing by Fridolf Johnson, depicts Joan Bennett with her arms around producers Fritz Lang and Walter Wanger standing on a cloud. The three had recently formed Diana Productions. The lovely Joan Bennett is pictured barefoot in a skimpy dress with the monocled Fritz Lang casually attired with a bandana around his neck, standing with a foot raised to rest on his other knee. Walter Wanger, on the other side, is nattily dressed in a suit and tie. Red hearts are pictured emanating from each of the men. The calligraphic tex centered under the image states: "Diana is a HIT / with Fritz Land / and Walter Wanger*". Text at the bottom further hints that "*You'll know why when you play SCARLET STREET / A Diana Production / A Universal Release". A single ruled frame encompasses the image. Slightly creased with some foxing or light brown spotting at right and bottom. Very good.

An original print distributed to cinema owners and distributors to promote the film and its new production company, and thus encourage them to screen it for their audiences.

The legendary director Fritz Lang established "Diana Productions" in 1945 with producer Walter Wanger and his wife, actress Joan Bennett. Lang's first production for the new company was "Scarlet Street".

An illustrator and artist as well as a fine pressman, Fridolf Johnson moved to California in 1942, working freelance in San Francisco and running the Contempo Art Service in Hollywood. It was in that role that he produced publicity material for the Hollywood studios. Subsequently, Johnson was the editor of American Artist Magazine until his retirement in the 1970's. He is perhaps best known for his books on Rockwell Kent, including the substantial "Rockwell Kent: An Anthology of His Work" published by Knopf in 1982.

RARE. Very good .
