AN ORIGINAL SIGNED LIMITED COLOR LITHOGRAPH BY EDNA HIBEL - sc A beautiful 19-1/2 inch high by 15-1/2 inch wide brightly colored lithograph on 26-1/2 inch high by 20 inch wide Japanese rice paper. The sensitive portrait depicts the young David seated in a field, gently holding a lamb. The image is framed within delicate pastel borders and is signed and numbered in pencil by the artist Edna Hibel within her colored frame. The lithograph is titled in pencil on the verso and laid into a creamy white paper chemise. The print is additionally titled in type at the center of the chemise in which it is housed. A Biblical quotation printed at the bottom of the chemise's front cover: "And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheet, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: and I went after him, and smote him....." "I Samuel, 17:34,35". There are remnants of small linen mounting tape at the top and bottom edges of the verso. Else, fine.

Born in Boston in 1917, the American artist Edna Hibel is one of the leading figures in contemporary art. She has throughout her life and career sought to capture the wonders of life and its hidden wellsprings of beauty, courage and dignity. As a painter and lithographer who has worked in a wide range of media and styles, she was honored by election to the Royal Society of Arts in London and by a tribute by the American Friends of Hebrew University. Her works are largely exhibited in major institutions and museums and have been exhibited in several one-person shows. The Hibel Museum of Art in Palm Beach, Florida is dedicated to her work.

Of the inspiration for her lithographs of David, Edna Hibel has stated that "For me, the story of David is the story of Everyman, not so much in the external events as in the essential components of his inner life - his weaknesses and strengths. The important moments, as I see them, are not the struggle with Goliath or the battles with the Philistines, but the times when David was forced to confront the Eternal as embodied in the crucial instants of love or courage, self-examination or joyous celebration." .
