A rare, charming account of a visit to America by the great French composer. from the library of William Gilbert Davies with his bookplate on the front pastedown. William Gilbert Davies was born in New York City, March 21, 1842. He graduated from Trinity College, Hartford, Conn. in 1860, being class poet, and delivering the commencement oration. He then went abroad and entered the University of Leipsic. After a year's study he returned, entering the law office of Slosson, Hutchins & Platt. In 1863 he was admitted to the Bar, and after a partnership of a few years duration with Henry H. Anderson, became a member of the Law Department of the Mutual Life Insurance Company. He was made head of the department in 1885, resigning about 1895 in order to resume active practice of his profession. In the Gettysburg campaign of the Civil War Davies served with the Twenty-second Regiment, N. G. S. N. Y. He died at his country home in Tuxedo Park on July 26, 1910. Good .
