Edgy sixties parodies of Mother Goose nursery rhymes: "See-saw, automate more / Factories have a new master, / Men shall get but a penny a day / Because the machines can work faster". Another rhyme reads: "This little kid drives to market / This little kid rules the home / This little kid eats pizza / This little kid hogs the phone / And this little kid flies on / L.S.D. all the way home!" The author and artist state that they are donating the proceeds from the sale of this book "to further the work of Essex County, N.J. Chapter, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom."
Mandel writes of her career: "Until midlife, my working identity was entirely that of wife-mother-daughter, a role attached to the needs of others. I still value those parts of my identity, but incorporate them into my work as poet, editor, teacher, and independent scholar."
