Typed Letter Signed from Lady Bird Johnson to Jean Dalrymple About the Illness of Her Husband, General Ginder. Washington, DC: November 7, 1968. - Octavo [9-1/2 inches high by 6-1/4 inches wide]. 41 words typed on a sheet of White House letterhead. Signed "Lady Bird Johnson" with the words "and affection" added in her hand to the typed sign-off "With warm best wishes". Folded twice for mailing. Together with the White House mailing envelope postmarked November 8, 1968. Fine. Jean Dalrymple [1902-1998] was the producer and director of theatre and light opera at City Center in Manhattan. In 1951 she married Major-General Philip deWitt Ginder, commander of the Thunderbirds in Korea. The First Lady writes: "The President and I have been deeply saddened to learn of your husband's illness. I just wanted you to know that you and General Ginder are in our thoughts, and that we will be praying for a complete and early recovery." Poignantly, this warm letter was written on the very day that General Ginder died.
