(HOTEL NEW YORKER). Let Us Be Gay. "Wine Maketh Glad the Life"... Ecclesiastes. / Hotel New Yorker / New York / Directed by National Hotel Management Co. , Inc. / Ralph Hitz, President.
New York: Hotel New Yorker, [circa mid-1930's]. - Quarto, 11-1/2 inches high by 9-1/2 inches wide. Purple foil covered spiral bound boards with the title and Art Nouveau style cover illustrations embossed in blind. The covers are rubbed and the corners bumped. [54] unnumbered pages with tabs, with profuse full-page photographic illustrations depicting the agriculture of grapes, production of wines, spirits and tobacco as well as those who enjoy the spirits. The foil is pulling away from the bottom of the rear pastedown. There is some minor soiling and creasing. Internally very good. Limited edition, this is number 443 of an unstated number of copies. Though there is no reference as to the date, the style and illustrations would suggest that the book was published soon after the repeal of prohibition. Includes an extensive list of wines, spirits, ligueurs, mixed drinks, beer and ales, non-alcolholic beverages and cigars."This Book may be purchased from the hotel. It is suggested as a practical guide for the bon vivant as well as a souvenir of your visit...." -- quoted from the colophon.RARE.
