First published in England in 1939, and reissued in 1948. --- In textured olive paper-covered boards backed in black cloth, with gilt-stamped spine titling. Unclipped jacket with drawing of title character in a village scene. --- With inked gift inscription to front free endpaper, a couple of scratches to covers, otherwise a clean, firmly-bound copy. Jacket with good-sized open tear to top edge of cover; some random rubbing but intact and protected in removable clear mylar wrapper.; Octavo (8 to 9 in. tall); (8), 261 pages.
