Green/gilt illustrated hardback cloth cover with brass clasp. 140mm x 230mm (6" x 9"). 766pp. 41 colour plates of signal flags, yacht club flags and racing flags. Additional folding charts. This copy bears name of J. [James] Currie in gilt lettering on the front cover. James Currie was the senior partner of the Currie line based in Leith. His vessel ' Jessie Iron' is listed on p.307 of this copy. The vessel was built in Glasgow in 1879 by Barclay, Curle and Co, which is also where the vessel was registered. With its code signal letters S N H L (handwritten in the book and corresponding with the official Lloyds entry), Jessie Iron was a screw schooner, signifying its dual methods of propulsion by sail and steam. With a length of 136.3 feet, a beam of 17 feet, and a depth 10.1 feet, she weighed 102.38 tons net,150.41 tons gross. Her steam plant was also built by Barclay, Curle & Co and comprised a compound inverted steam engine with two cylinders having a stroke of 24 inches and cylinder diameters of 16 inches and 30 inches respectively. The steam plant operated at a pressure of 80 pounds per square inch producing 40 horse power.. VG : in very good condition without dust jacket as issued. Cover lightly rubbed. Inner hinges cracked. Handwritten inscription pertaining to James Currie's Yacht 'Jessie' and with 'Lloyds stamp to relevant ownership details pertaining to this. Aeg .
