Illustrated board cover with beveled edges and green cloth spine. 370mm x 280mm (15" x 11"). 18pp. Illustrated throughout with chromolithographs by Ernest M. Jessop. Script typeface and written in rhyme. It's very hard to decide which genre this book falls into - perhaps an "adult children's book" with a moral? Thomas Ingoldsby [a.k.a. Rev. Richard Harris Barham](1788-1845). He was one of the original members of the Garrick Club from 1831 and was a regular contributor to Blackwood's Magazine and Bentley's Miscellany where the pseudonym of Thomas Ingoldsby was first used. He was appointed President of Sion College in 1842. The Ingoldsby Legends, or Mirth and Marvels were published in Bentley's and, then , Colburn's New Monthly Magazine.. G : in good condition without dust jacket. Covers slightly soiled and corners rubbed. Short split to front inner hinge. Content very good and tightly bound .
