Woodcut engravings; fold out pedigrees of Clavering and Hutton and map of Durham. Published 1785-1794. Volume 3 was published by F Jollie for the author in Carlisle. Content of Volume 1: Biographies and history of Bishops of Durham; Vol 2: Topography and history of the city of Durham and surrounding areas; Vol 3: Places of interest and historical importance such as Sedgefield, Eggleston, Caldron Snout etc. Bookplate of Sir Andrew Noble Bart; KCB on eps of Vols 1. and 3. Card of Mr. Christopher Seymour Bell on ep of Vol. 2. A lawyer from Barnard Castle, Hutchinson occupied his leisure with writing and, with the help of his friend George Allen, published this valuable 'History and Antiquities of the County Palatine of Durham' between 1785 and 1794. He also wrote a number of topographical works on Northumberland and the Lake District, plays, romances, and gothic tales.. G : in Good condition. Rebound. Some browning and foxing throughout. Light water stain to lower half of first 100 pages of Vol 1 .
